| The basics of role playing are simple:
- 3rd Person Only - Please post in third person only. In essence, the TRPG is a story, so therefore we are creating a huge story with the help of everyone who participates. It hels to use your Player Character (PC) in 3rd Person so we can follow the story along without looking at the character sheet over and over.
- 3rd person - Bridgette did not want to go to that field.
- 1st person is only acceptable when your PC is talking in reference to him/herself. "I don't want to go to that field."
- Speaking in 3rd person is also acceptable, if you wish to give your PC a unique (odd) characteristic.
And like a story, the formatting should be like a story as well. Use quotation marks where it is needed. All actions do not need Asterisks ( * ), so please use regular text.
- You may color and bolden your text if you wish. Bold only when you are making a point. "I will not go to that field."
- Use all caps only when shouting. "I SAID I WILL NOT GO TO THAT FIELD!" Actions should not be shouted, only when speaking aloud or thinking of shouting something.
- Quote :
- Bridgette thought she would say "I WILL NOT GO TO THAT FIELD!"
- Keep the size normal.
- Preferably no underlines, unless you are implying a clue or wish the reader to pay close attention to a particular word or sentence.
- When the PC is thinking in their mind, italics may be used to differentiate speaking aloud, versus thinking in the mind. Quotes can be used, but not required in this case.
No gods - For obvious reason, making your Player Character (PC) a god makes the role playing boring as the PC will seem unbeatable. If there are special PC's that show up, they will be handled by experienced role players who can play the character, but still make it fun. No Mind Control - For obvious reasons, it makes it rather difficult to have fun if your character is being controlled by someone else (its not fun in games, especially WoW). For this reason, do not control someone else's character. This can also be considered god-like. (Thanks Reimei for the reminder, Ouka for adding it). Limitations of controlling NPC's include
"Save Data" - When your character wants to "save their progress", in which the action by the NPC must show it saving your PC progress. Buying / Selling - Buying and Selling items to an NPC store, in which the NPC action must show some kind of "merchandising" such as handing the item to you (your buying) or receiving the item from you (your selling). Storage - Your character want to store something, in which the NPC is receiving or handing the item to you. The action must imply that the NPC's action is storage services. General Chat - NPC's may also talk to you, and letting you come up with how they talk to you (by offering services) helps make their sentences random. However, they may not deviate from their basic role. A merchant NPC cannot save your progress, and should not offer that service. However, they may suggest the idea if you purchased or sold something. No spamming - This includes event spamming. All events, such as Aura sending cryptic messages, will be handled by a staff member, with a disclaimer notice below it as to note that it is intended for an event. Big posts - In this role playing environment, we encourage all participants to use the maximum characters allowed for a single post. The more detailed you are, the better the story line. Please post at least a full paragraph, or 5 sentences with at least 500 words. If you went to a university and took an English class, then this should be a "walk in the park". Do not be afraid to post a big message. Advertising - Advertising is okay as long as it's in-game and your PC is selling/trading/buying an in-game item or information, such as TAN from .hack//Roots. As there is a forum rule against advertising, you may NOT do any of the following: Show links to REAL sites, for this reason, you may not post anything .com, .net, .org, etc Advertise adult content, including that of sexual, racist, or defamatory in nature. Illegal software, such as warez, cracks, and malicious software Stay on topic - Keep to the story. If PC A was in field New Test Field and hasn't left that field, then obviously PC A cannot be in field New Public Field. You would be breaking the story. However, if two things are going on in different fields, PC A is in New Test Field and PC B is in New Public Field, then they may not interact by field, but may interact by messaging. Or PC B ran into a monster, PC A left the field to go to the root town, then into the field PC B is at to help PC B.
Basically, the idea is to create a book that has multiple authors, each controlling their own character. A "Massive Author Fanfiction", you could say. If you have suggestions that could be added to the basics of role playing, please post it here and I shall add it to the list. Questions? Ask them here too. If you are an advanced role player and would like to help role players that are not quite experience, please feel free to tutor them, but be nice when doing it. Arrogance will not help here. And as you may know to get back on with GodModding, it is quite impossible to in this RP unless you clearly cheat. | |
